Firefox 3 three finger swipe for multitouch mac's!!! (tutorial)

Firefox 3's missing component, the 3 finger swipe.
(For mac OS X Leopard with multitouch only)

For those of you who don't know the features of the "three finger swipe", it's a way of using three fingers to easily skim your photos or files. So i just got back from vacation like a week and a half ago. Since my dad is a avid photographer, there are just about a million pictures. I thought i would make a slideshow of our vacation. This little gadget cut about an hour off of the time to make a nice slideshow because i cold go through the photos very quickly and delete all of the blurred and distorted photos. This is just a personal story.

Now this gadget has come to Firefox 3 if you have it downloaded. What this enables you to do is to navigate back and forward pages without using the "back" or "forward" buttons on the top left of the window. All you have to do is place three of your fingers on the touchpad of your Macbook Air or Macbook Pro and swipe whichever way you would like to go. Swipe left to go back a page and swipe right to go forward a page. I just find it really convenient when using firefox or when organizing photos.

1) Click here and unzip.

2) Install it into the System Preferences by double clicking the unzipped file.

3) Copy everything EXACTLY as you see in this pic once you clicked on MultiClutch in System Preferences.

If you cant see it or you dont understand then click the "+" at the bottom left and add the application firefox. then match the gesture with the command.

command [ is "Back"
command ] is "Forward"

My only issue with this (as neat as it is) is that , first, it's hard to replace existing behaviors with new ones. Furthermore, once you're used to this, this isn't possible across all notebooks (not even across Mac laptops - yet) and would probably frustrate me more when I need to jump on another machine.

Or, maybe I'm getting old.

Agree there. I have been spoiled with my MBP from last year and its semi-multi-touch. It frustrates me when I have to get back in the habit of other machines. They should make a usb multi-touch pad. (For both mac and pc) so its usable on both and you can take it with you.

But no one is forcing you to use the TrackPad. If you don't want to get used to it, then don't use it. You can't judge Apple for making innovations for their products just because it's a little tricky to make the transition.

People usually get adjusted to things over time. When I had my IBM Thinkpad, it was difficult to get use to the little thing (don't know what its called) the little dot thing to navigate, but after awhile I liked it. So people need to get adjusted before they make the call, my opinion.
