Is the iPod Classic Dead in the Water?

Was thinking this morning... Is the iPod classic dead in the water? I mean, with the advent of the touch, it seems that the touch is definitely on the leading edge of the iPod family. Kind of leaves the classic in an odd space.

I suppose the classic is a cheaper option in comparison to the touch. Of course I do not know the sales numbers but they must still do decently with them, or it wouldn't be around.

Can't go wrong with a classic. I own one...solid unit.

I love my Classic. The issue I have with the Touch is it cannot hold all my music and when I'm away from home without a laptop/computer, I can't say for sure what music I'll want to listen to over a fortnight.

Also, the Touch is a poor music player when compared to the Classic. I have to keep getting it out of my pocket so I can look at the screen and change the volume or fast forward through a podcast - both those functions can be done on my Classic when it is still attached to my belt via a clip.

Fast forwarding with the slider on a 2 hour podcast is also rubbish as the slider skips too much content - the click wheel method is much more accurate.

Long live the Classic!

Also, in addition to everything Mabsey said, I think it makes sense to keep the iPod Classic available. The Touch is much more than just a music player, and the price shows:
80GB iPod Classic: $249
8Gb iPod Touch: $299
That's ten times the music space with $50 knocked off the price. If you're in it just for the music, the Classic is your clear choice. If you don't mind the low space (and have a really damn small music collection) and can make good use of the multitude of other features, perhaps the Touch is for you. If not, I say go Classic. I still have my 30gb 5G from 2005.

Agreed. For hardcore music lovers that have to have music at their side... it's hard to go wrong with the classic. So much more storage space for a reasonable price.

Agreed. But you have to notice that they aren't pushing many ads for the Classic, well none actually. And they stopped running Nano ads. I don't think they are dead in the water, I just think they are seling enough that they don't feel the need to promote them...

I only got iPod classic, well.. video 30gig.
The way I see it, iPod classic is for hearing music and all that stuff, have all your music there.
But iPod touch, use it more of a.. handy device, to have your calendar, notes, browse internet in wi-fi hotspots, watch pics (I love scrolling with the finger), and things like that.
I think you get the point...
