Network Hard Drive and Time Machine

I recently purchased a 50GB drive to hook up to my network. Finally, I thought, I'll be able to take advantage of Time Machine and backup my important stuff quickly, easily... and in an automated fashion.

Well, to my horror thus far, the process hasn't been an easy one. I hooked up the drive to my airport base station, and the drive DOES appear in the finder. However, when I open Time Machine, it does not pick up the new drive on the network. What gives?

The new OS X Leopard 10.5.2 is supposed to address this issue.

Anyone out there experience the same problem? Or do you have any troubleshooting tips?

Time machine works perfectly fine backing up to a network hard drive. I have a Buffalo link station and it work fine.

Initially I had problems but I found an article on the web and as per that article I ran the following command on a termial window... and everything started working fine.

defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1

I had found a few help articles out there but nothing has seemed to work... yet. Very frustrating to say the least.
