I was genuinely disappointed when I heard the back of the new iPhone will be plastic. Should be interesting to see how solid/sturdy it is.

I don't know about the white version...for me, personally, I think it's somewhat feminine (not that there's anything wrong with having a feminine iPhone - so long as you're a female) - much moreso than the previous white ipods because of the curved back on the new iPhones. Personally, I would have preferred a silver back version. I also wish the trim was the same as the iPod Touch - I like the "charcoal" trim much better.

I just wish they were launching with a 32 GB version as well! Ugghh! I would probably pay a premium price for it too...I just know if I wait a few more months that the 32GB will be offered...but alas, I do not have the patience to wait...

So, I'm going for the black version...8GB. Why? Because I know that Apple will continue to add more functionality and additional storage, so I can better justify a future purchase of the next version when it comes out, even if it's just software updates and a 32 GB iPhone. Yes, can you believe I've got this thought out? Hey, I know what you're thinking...

I wasn't too surprised about the plastic backing on the iPhone 3G because I'm certain that it was a decision driven by the need to improve the wifi (and perhaps other) signals on the iPhone. I prefer the silver backing (I even like the duotone black/silver) but realize that it's simply more practical to go with plastic.

I think I'll go for a black one, not too fond of white. If the plastic back helps the wifi, i say good thinkin apple! And another good thing about it is that it might not get scratched as easy because whenever i wrapped my headphones around the iPod they would scratch up the back. This time I'm getting a case just to be safe.
