Liteicon, the FREE alternative...

For everyone NOT wanting to pay for Candybar (or being annoyed that the licence is not Leopard-compatible ;-)))...), there is a free but more crude variant of it named LiteIcon... it does the job, for me at least... Have a look!

Actually it looks like a slimmed down Candy Bar-

The principle how I believe both apps to work is fairly simple- You save the current state somewhere as a backup and then You- unlike as with a mere skinning app- You change that actual icon itself... some people might not like this method because You depend on the app to work in order to revert the orginal state... but I experienced both Candybar as well as LiteIcon to be very reliable...

In contrast to CandyBar with LiteIcon You have to change icon per icon via drag & drop, while in CandyBar You can apply Iconsets to the whole interface in one go- for the lazy and flexible this might be worth the money, for me it ain't anymore... I bought CandyBar for Tiger and during the following two years I changed the Iconset very seldomly, always returning to Amora... I found that You can easily find some other momentarily more stunning icons, but after a while You start to miss the "clean" and subtle beauty of 'em...

To answer Your question, since the modification is permanent and not depending on any other software to compromise resource, the modification as well as the changing of icons via drag and drop is very convenient and stable! No issues so far! Cheers!

True... I just intalled CandyBar the other day actually... Was working on a few icons and wanted to swap new icons in/out for the trash can. Ended up installing CandyBar to handle the switch. Still incredibly easy to use!

I was annoyed by the price tag, to be perfectly honest with You guys... sure, Candybar is the most automated way to switch icons... but I guess I found my most preferred set (see the amora post, hehehe)...

Hey Mayor! I'd like to share my amora icontainer after testing it thoroughly... but zipped it's a 1.25MB file... is there a solution?

1.25MB isn't bad... send it my way when you're done with it and I can make it available on the site.
