Font issue in Safari

At work one of the graphic designers mentioned an issue with fonts in Safari, specifically Wikipedia.

What happens is, instead of being in English, the fonts are (what appear to be) a middle eastern or Indian font. I can't pinpoint which one though. Initially I chalked it up to the international settings in system preferences, but that wasn't it. Then I thought maybe its just a Wikipedia issue (this happens on any Wiki, not just wikipedia), but it also happens on Firefox web browser | Faster, more secure, & customizable.

Below are screenshots showing what is happening and what I have in the International settings of System Preferences. Any ideas on how to fix this?

This could be due to a corrupted font or a font conflict.

Launch Font Book and try to see if you have a font called Helvetica Fractions that is enabled. If it is, disable it.

While you're in Font Book, select your fonts and click on Validate fonts (see the attached screenshot).

And you can always download FontNuke to clean out the font cache, in case there is some type of corruption.

Another thing : if you have many fonts installed on your Mac, it would be best that you use a more robust font manager than Font Book. I use Linotype's freebie FontExplorer X. It checks for font conflicts, you can deactivate unnecessary fonts (which will make your Mac a bit more perkier if its resources are mobilized to deal with too many enabled fonts), you can create sets that you enable/disable at will, etc.

MacHeadCase >> I'll try your suggestions. For the fonts, at the office the graphics department uses Suitcase Fusion X.

Absolutely ! Suitcase is another font manager but it's a bit expensive for home use unless you're a professional. At school, we used Suitcase as well.
