Well BoyGeniusReport managed to get their hands on a 3G (lucky) and happily posted a nice surplus of pictures for us Not much i can say that these pictures cant say better. They also have some side-by-side comparison pictures of the new iPhone and the old one.

Looks exciting! If you look at the side by sides, the new iPhone appears to be a slight wider. The new one has more black on the sides of the screen. I think however that it may be due to the chrome on the sides. It appears they don't have the chrome on the sides wrap up around the top as much as the old.

Anyone else notice that?

holy moly!!! who would do such a thing to a brand new, white 16gb iPhone?!? they should be punished for this!! ... if it weren't so darn hilarious.

The front, including the outside metal trim, should be exactly the same...

that is not a white 3g iPhone. it's the first iPhone.
the new one has a full-white back, and the one from the pic has a darker color at the bottom.
and if you right click the photo and select Properties, you'll seen the link to it which is from a 10.15.2007 article.
