I would have to say that MSFT has one giant advantage over Apple: market share. Worldwide, the comparisons aren't even close, especially in the commercial market. Even if MSFT comes out with commercials for Vista, they will probably not directly attack Macs. This would do nothing more than give Macs credibility and show that they are a formidable opponent to PCs. They'll likely continue to ignore the Mac vs PC commercials until Macs gain significant market share, which isn't likely to happen for several years. And to answer the original post, my favorites are also the Mac vs PC ads. They're pretty clever and make PCs look terrible...

They probably sunk a lot of R&D dollars into Vista and have a vested interest in keeping it around for awhile. I think they've gotten over the hump and got rid of a lot of the bugs that came with the first release. It seems that no matter what they release it gets awful feedback (other than XBOX360), so a new OS would probably be perceived as poorly as Vista. Plus, trying to bring a new OS to market would be admitting that Vista was a failure. The media and Apple marketing folks would have a field day with that...

No doubt they have spent a ton in R&D, but sometimes you have to cut losses. But I did read catch win of Microsoft releases "its most secure update ever" (Microsoft Issues Its Most Secure Update Ever : Boy Genius Report).
