Humm, this discussion is REALLY extreme... I could hardly picture the 4 30" displays... while the idea really is nice i still don't consider more than one display a necessity- but then again, I never seriously worked at graphics stuff, so maybe that's all the rage to have one settings screen and one editing screen-

as for me I tried really hard to get spaces to a use- but I never made it... I get confused with more than two windows while I don't see any value of having this other prog being fully expanded in another space, while I understand the useability and simplicity of it

I for instance am using the feature to hide all non-focussed apps (with dragthing, fyi)... in my opinion ething above this is optional luxury- You're not looking at two screens at one time, as well as You don't necessarily need to clog up Your RAM with all these background apps...

it somehow feel like the exact opposite compared to the above... what do you guys think?

Once you make the switch to 2 monitors, I don't think you ever look back. I generally have my Mail app open on my MBP desktop, and work with photoshop and other apps on the larger 23" display. In general though, I have windows all over the place... Kind of like a messy room... But I know where everything is!

For me, I always saw a computer desktop as a digital desk-top. For example, back when I went to University (in the ancient 1997), before everyone had a computer, when I was studying, or working on a paper, I generally had my paper, reference books, printouts of research, etc.

Going forward to the present, on a computer with 2 monitors, I generally have my work (email, a document, a persentation, a website I'm coding, graphics I'm working on) on one screen, and any tools/references on the other.

Its not a necessity by any means, but, like Mr. Mayor said, once you go 2 monitors, you won't go back.

i think the new mac pro's can take 8 30" screens. now that would be overkill!

Good one gaz! It finally seems that how many screens You actually have determines how many you find ridiculous, hehehe... Consensus seems to be that this is a one-way street of never looking back... and I can't avoid smiling over this ;-)

Don't get me wrong, first time I sat in front of two NEC TFTs to do a measurement on one of our fancier machines I was simply blown away by the increase in space! But as the previous posts show, there's virtually no limit to this... I wonder why Apple came up with spaces if I anyway can open all my apps on my eight 30" screens <giggle>

Yeah I'm anxious to see what your setup looks like. I'm thinking along the lines of mac-heaven.
