My Apple Gear

OK, here's what I have at the moment:

Intel Mac Mini 2.0 GHz, 1 GB RAM
MacBook Pro 2.33 GHz, 3 GB RAM
24" iMac 2.8 GHz, 4 GB RAM
iPod Touch 16 GB
Apple TV 40 GB
iPod Classic 160 GB
iPod Nano (2nd Gen) 4 GB
iPod Shuffle 1st Gen (1GB)
iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen (1GB)
Airport Extreme Base Station (1st Gen)
Airport Express Base Station (802.11n version)

I'll probably replace my MacBook Pro around September - either with a new MacBook Pro or maybe a MacBook Air (but only if the Air comes with 160 GB hard drive and 4 GB RAM option).

Nice set, I'd say...

concerning the MacAir dreams of Yours- I don't see any chance for apple to raise RAM while not compromising on battery life and heat... so I don't think there'll be any chance You get what You wish for- especially since the Air is already fairly high-powered for a notebook of its league, I'd say...

apart from this I wouldn't think that You being used to your Macbook Pro powerhouse will adapt to sth like the Air... it is nice, but type away on it for a while, then think of the battery issue and the additional optical drive You will carry with You... and then decide not to pay so much additional money for only making it smaller and lighter...

btw, what are You doing with those shuffles? PLEASE don't tell me You got them in different colors to best match your varying outfit ;-)))

Thanks - I hadn't thought about the heat issue with the RAM.

As for the Shuffles, they both came as gifts from Audible.co.uk when I subscribed to an annual membership.

hehehe, could've thought of such an excuse to disguise Your addiction as well...
I was always wondering whether there's a moment when You're really missing a screen on the shuffle- I mean just an itsy-bitsy small one? Or do You simply get accustomed with the lack of it?

When I used the Shuffle it was for the gym, where a lack of screen wasn't really an issue. I did find the lack of screen an issue with podcasts though, especially if they had chapters or were enhanced with pictures, etc. That is why I had a Nano - a much more useful device.

I can totally agree... I was converted to finding the advantage of a bright and crisp screen with the iphone... I would preferentially not change back to no screen... i mean, for music I'd say Monochrome is fine- but having these nice albums to flick through spoils You to a certain degree ;-)...

actually, shuffle for the gym sounds reasonable... does this mean now I saved a lot of money since I neither am in a gym nor own a shuffle? So many questions...

For working out, doesn't matter to me if there is a screen or not. Often I'll simply have a 'mental picture' of what music I'm carrying and can navigate around the player regardless.

A few years back I had a small 512 RCA MP3 player that I used to carry to the gym... didn't have a screen and I was pleased with it...

More important for me was the size factor. I wanted something small that wouldn't get in the way while working out.

Of course, now the shuffle or nanos are excellent options.
