Awhile back I read a great article (that I can't seem to find for you guys) about someone who got a Tivo and over time, found herself recording/watching sitcoms and entertainment shows - forsaking news and informative shows that she had used to watch before being able to choose her shows - and how it resulted in a decline in her mental growth, and causing her to feel out of touch with the world...

It was a very thought-provoking read.

I can definitely see that happening. However my dad, grand dad has always stressed the importance of watching and reading News and informative shows and they never really liked sitcoms. But I do tend to watch a few sitcoms.

Wow... where to even begin. You guys definitely hit a lot of the main ones for me.

1. Mac Pro (nuff said)
2. dSLR (no more waiting to see that your roll of film sucked)
3. HDTV (just for movies)
4. 5.1 surround sound (drool)
5. MBP+Internet (i can work from anywhere in the world now)

All the rest, it's just fun technology... does an automatic espresso maker count?

1. Computer and Internet both. Without these I would have not found my lovely Wife. We both were working people who signed up and met through Yahoo Personals.

2. iPod. I remember carrying around cassettes, CDs, and yes 8 track tapes to play in my vehicles.

3. GPS... One other excuse to not have to stop and ask for directions. "Honey I don't need to stop and ask for directions... The GPS will get us there.

4. Up To The Minute Weather. As someone who is in aviation, it is very important that I know the weather conditions before allowing students and renters, and myself to go flying. In 1987 the first weather computer came to the airport that was satellite based. Weather was posted hourly. Now with automation I can get weather reports every minute from my destination airport or an airport near by that has the appropriate weather equipment.

5. Powerbooks - Who knew I would have so much fun with a portable computer.

6. Online Shopping
7. Online Entertainment
8. Digital Movies and Shows. I can carry all the episodes of Coupling with me wherever I go.
