Thumbs up Remove Drm Protection from iTunes songs Using Noteburner for Mac

This is an instruction for MAC OS X of how to convert any DRM protected music files (such as M4P, M4A, M4B) and unprotected music (MP3, rax, MP4, RA, snd, OGG, aif) to plain MP3 or AAC format.

1. Download and Install.
Download NoteBurner Audio Converter for MAC and then install it. It will
install a virtual CD burner in your computer, with this drive, you can easily get your DRM protected music or audio files converted to plain MP3 or AAC audio files. The trial version only converts 3 minutes music, and you can purchase the registration code to unlock this

limitation. The interface of the application is as below:

2. Choose Output Format and Output Folder.
Go to the top-left NoteBurner > Preferences..., a window will appear as below:

Here you can specify output path where the converted audio files will be located in, choose the desired output format from MP3 and AAC, and set the output quality. If you want to be alerted when there is an update, check the option of "Check Updates on Startup".

3. Choose NoteBurner for Mac as Your Default CD Burner:
Run iTunes and operate by Preferences->Advanced->Burning, then click to select "NoteBurner Virtual CD-RW" as the CD burner, and please also check Audio CD and Include CD Text which will enable the converted music to carry relevant information, such as title and artist of music.
Then click OK to return to the main screen of iTunes.

4. Add Music You Need to Burn:
Choose File > New Playlist in iTunes to create a new playlist to hold all music and audiobooks you want to burn. Right-click on the music in music library and audiobooks in Audiobooks library to choose Add to Playlist and choose the list created. Press Shift or Command key to add more than one file to the playlist at one time. Since NoteBurner for Mac is a CD-R disc, and a normal CD only holds 80 minutes or less, so please don't convert too many at a time.

5. Start to Burn and Convert the Audio Files:
After you add all music and audiobooks to the playlist you created, go to the playlist, and click the Burn Disc button at the right bottom of

iTunes to start burning. You may need to wait for a moment to let the iTunes and NoteBurner for Mac start working. If you don't want to continue, click "x" button to stop burning.

6. Burning
A moment later after iTunes starts to burn the files, NoteBurner for Mac will start to encode all burned files to your selected format.

7. Open the Output Files and Edit ID3 Tag Information:
Once all selected files are burned by virtual disc and converted successfully, you can right click on the music and select "Show In Finder"

to check the converted audio files in the output folder.
Or if you want to edit the tags for these converted files, you can select Edit Tags, or press the Edit Tags button on top right of the interface to edit.

Thumbs up

Nice instructions!

This method is probobly acceptable for most uses, but doesn't it result in sacrifice of quality? I've seen some lossless applications around for removing DRM but Apple has taken the downloads of the web. You can however still torrent them, like here: iTunes DRM Crackers [QTFairUse 6.2.5 and Requiem 1.0] (download torrent) - TPB

Another method that I know is to import then export with iMovie. Instructions are here: hymn :: View topic - iMovie "Trick" For Mac Users

Really nice tool!

Same thing works with a bit more hassle through any recording software (soundstudio or amadeus pro in my case) and just recording using soundflower as digital out/in...

noteburner seems to be a little less fiddly, though, but really expensive, considering it can only do this job and nothing else- so if You own any recording software, check out soundflower... cheers!
