How much is too much? (Data plan cost)

I just opened my cellphone bill (never a fun exercise). I haven't paid it in a couple of months and I owe $64.73. Now granted, it's just a regular talk-plan with text messaging so it's not like I have a pimped out phone by any means.

But I'm suddenly weary of the thought of paying over $100 every single month for a voice and data plan. Here in Canada, Rogers is being pretty tight lipped about rate plans (with rumors suggesting something may happen on Friday) but they're not expected to be cheap.

So how much is too much? If data plans are a must to activate your iphone, I'm starting to wonder if I'll hold off for a while. With all the service fees and taxes, it's not hard to rack up a cell phone bill that's in the hundreds of dollars. Is there a price point at which you'll say 'forget it' or are you in at all costs?

I think anything over $100 a month and I'm out. At least for now.

I pay $70 USD per month, and it will go up to $85 per month - due to the $10 additional for 3G data and $5 for 200 text messages. Not excited about this at all. In fact, I think we should all complain to AT&T so that they will at least reconsider...

Anything over $85 or so is way too much. I am currently a T-mobile member and share a family plan. I love T-mobile's unlimited txt msg plan and use it alot. Things are really going to change when I swap to AT&T, why do they charge so much for txting?

All this makes me think, and I came to the conclusion that communications is a huge businiess (don't know how to spell that lol). I'm guessing it's number one right now...

Too huge. I mean they charge us for telephone and internet at home, now on the mobile, and if you need it for your laptop on the road they charge you once again for the internet.
