I jailbroke my iPod Touch a few months ago and well, I love it. It is quite easy if you find a good tutorial or watch a couple of YouTube videos outlining the process. I did it just because I wanted some new applications for my iPod Touch and the ability to have my own iPod Touch theme. Also, why not? You can always restore your iPod Touch if something bad happens too.

I did this to my iPhone, and it's pretty cool. The apps are plenty, and it takes some time to wade through the lame apps, but it's amazing what can be done once jailbroken...including:

recording video (and uploading to YouTube)
customizing the look (of anything/everything) on your device
search for and download music
save youtube videos to your device
games - from emulators to billiards to guitar hero
sketchpad
I can go on and on...or simply provide a link:

iPhone and iPod Touch Application List: Software listing for iPhone and iPodTouch
iPhone Applications List - iPod Touch Applications Blog Archive The List
...here's two out of like a hundred sites

What does jailbreaking do to the warranty or cell phone contract?

Nothing to the cell contract - but technically, it voids your warranty. The reason this hasn't kept many from jailbreaking is 1) it's been done alot without negative consequences, and 2) you can "restore" your iPhone/Touch to remove the jailbroken state...

Well, Apple will detect if it was jailbroken, even if restored and cleared all remnants of it being jailbroken, so you cant return it when it breaks or dies, it makes it slow, it is illegal, and, also, you cant restore it if you download even 1 of the 96 malicious and viral apps on installer, and all 97 will disable the firewires (place where you connect it to iTunes cable), and will also brick it. That's why yopu don't jailbreak it. If you actually like Apple, you won't ruin the hard work they put into their products. See ya.
