Web-Based Replacements for Native Apps

I know that the AppStore is coming in two days but I thought that I'd share these great apps I have bookmarked on my iPod Touch. They're all optimized for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Music - Seeqpod
There's no need to download music when you have WiFi. Seeqpod is a huge (the biggest) directory of freely accessible mp3s on the web.

Mail - Gmail
I prefer the Gmail iPhone interface to Apple's own Mail application. It is thread-based and is very user friendly.

Maps - Grapier Google Maps
While not as smooth as the native Maps application, this version of Google Maps has been geniously optimized for mobile devices, and keeps all of the same features.

Chat - TinyBuddy AIM
This is another genious app that is one of a kind. It can handle multiple AIM conversations at once, and uses a very user friendly AJAX interface. However there are some unavoidable problems. (You are signed off if you don't return to the window every 30 seconds.)

The AIM app will be free though on the App Store and I'm fine wit the maps and music but thanks still. I'll come back here if i change my mind.

I would probably use gmail app. As thats my number one email account. Plus I have my domain emails going to there.

I love how everyday I know of a new web-based app, I've mentioned before on other sites that web-based apps is the future of software

Yes, web-based apps are great. I definitely see how the general public could accept a completely web-based world, but I don't see how I could ever live like that. Speaking of which, you might find eyeOS and iCloud interesting.

I can see it happening, but the only thing I don't like about it would be the subscription rates for each program. Look at the popular games that charge crazy subscription charges.

There's a great new thing in iPhone and iPod Touch firmware 2.0: When mp3s are playing in Safari, you can actually use other apps and the music will not stop playing. This makes SeeqPod an even greater web app. As long as you have WiFi but aren't using Safari, your music library can have practically any song you want.
