MacBook Air - Is it really that great?

Is the MacBook Air really a 'seminal' computer as described by Brooke Crothers over at Crave? To read more on what I'm talking about go here:
Is the MacBook Air Really a Seminal Computer? | Mactropolis.com - Your Friendly Global Mac Community

Design, SSD, Sturdiness, Performance and Battery Life are all key points she claims the MBA performs like a super-star on.

I've heard arguments either way... but it seems the community is definitely torn on this one. Either it's the absolute best thing since sliced bread, or the MBA is an overpriced, under performing hunk of C*#!

What's your take?

When it came out, I was in love with it, right now, I don't think it's really that great, I mean, it is aswome, so light weight, that's the main point I like, but nah, I would rather go pro or regular mac book.

I hear ya dude. Totally depends what you do for a living... for me, it wouldn't cut it. But for the salesman on the road, or just for anyone that travels a lot with work, it would be almost ideal.

yeah I've heard about these. the main complaint around is about no DVD player.

edit: I'd think it would be consider buying seeing as Charlie Rose sacrificed his face for it. What a cool guy

For those with all the disposable income in the world, i.e. Martha Stewart (yes, she really did buy one) the Macbook Air offers a very mobile laptop that doubles as a STATUS SYMBOL.

Without a doubt, Apple's success is clearly in their ability to combine beautiful hardware with compelling software that users believe they NEED, not just WANT.

Oh, and they're great marketers too.
